1st Islam Project
The 1-islam project has the objective to unify the 5 Montreal MSAs (ETS, UQAM, UDM, McGill & CONCORDIA) every year in an effort to increase the well being of the overall Montreal community.
This year, MSA Concordia was given the responsibility to take leadership of the 1-Islam Project for the 3 consecutive year. The ultimate objective of the project is to sustain and promote humanitarian activism in the Montreal community in a unified effort to increase the quality of life in the overall municipality. To meet such audacious goals, MSA Concordia decided to collaborate with many Muslims and non-Muslim organizations to strengthen its impact.
The icebreaker for the 1-Islam project this year was the soup kitchen where all the MSAs fed the homeless of Montreal in collaboration with Mission Old Brewery. The 5 MSAs joined forces for 7 consecutive days from the 8 of august until the 14 of august during the blessed month of Ramadan. Close to 100 people were fed each day, which means that approximately 700 people were fed in total for the full week. In addition to that, MSA volunteers sat with the homeless people while they were eating to build a sense of brotherhood and fraternity with them meanwhile abolishing all notions of status.
Other events such as this one will follow Inshallah. If you want more information or if you would like to be part of this initiative please contact: Eduardo Alves via email at: external@msaconcordia.com
